American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons Community,
Welcome to the AAHKS Arthroplasty Implant Registry () . We know this has been a long-awaited release of an invaluable resource to our AAHKS members. This is a web application available to all members and can be utilized to aid in identification of unknown implants in preparation for revision procedures. The initial release includes only femoral stems used for total hip arthroplasty, both primary and revision. This includes 827 verified implants spanning 34 countries of manufacturing origin, and from 152 modern and legacy manufacturing companies. As a user, you will apply available known criteria, such as implant fixation, geometry, unique identifying features, and manufacturing company (when known). This will generate a small gallery of implants that match your input criteria and allow you to select the best match for your unknown implant.
While we are proud of the index version of this project, this is only the foundation for the immediate and long-term future. Initial feedback from our community's usage will be welcomed and utilized for optimization of functionality. There are more than 700 additional implants, including total knee, partial knee, and acetabular components awaiting addition to the software. Further, the deidentified radiographs associated with your inquiries will be catalogued. This will allow us to improve the quality of available images in our database and generate teaching sets of unique images for deep learning of a future artificial intelligence model. Maintaining all of this in a digital environment creates infinite capacity for perpetual database growth, enhancement of technology, and functional adaptation. Your feedback and confirmation of implant identification are vital to this project's continued evolution.
We thank our past president, Dr. Javad Parvizi, MD for his vision in spearheading the inception of this exciting offering, our current president Dr. James Huddleston, MD for ongoing project support, and our executive director, Mr. Michael Zarski, JD, for oversight and leadership. The AAHKS Digital Health Committee has been instrumental in testing, brainstorming, and providing feedback. However, we view this as a "project of the people," and look forward to working with you all to fill the significant void in modern, comprehensive, and accurate arthroplasty implant identification technology across the international arthroplasty community.
